Hi, I am new at teaching DP visual arts and I need some clarification.
1) What is correct, Investigative workbook (IWB) or investigation workbook (IW)? I have seen both around...
2) how many assessment criteria are there for IW/IWBs, (whatever is correct) : I have seen two different documents, one with 5 descriptors and one with 8.
What are they?
Thank you very much.

Hi Emily, There is not a clear cut answer for this question...I think that they should be aware of the criteria and do as you have stated in your question (especially in the beginning) but as they get further into the program they might not include all of that for every piece. They might have a series of works that does not require it all but overall there should be a balance. Perhaps they have already brainstormed ideas previously and just need to refine the idea...they should do further investigation to gain more depth but it might just be further research into an artist or idea they have already begun exploring. I think they should always show their process and reflections are always good as well. In my class there is always a lot more structure in the first year with a gradual progression towards more independence but I use the rubrics that have all the IB criteria on them when grading and giving feedback and I let them know if there is an area that needs more attention. I hope this helps! Michelle
