Hi,
I am taking currently taking visual arts HL but I started the IB very late and I have a lot to catch up especially for art. My theme was on world peace and I was trying to relate that to fashion. Another theme that I was thinking was traditions(Korean traditional art) expressed in a modern way. I really can not think of any kind of artwork that I could do for these themes. I'm not even sure whether or not these themes are ok to follow. Could someone give me some advice for my themes and what kind of artwork I could do? Thanks.

I have been asked to submit the options for each student for IGSCE Art and Design for 2013.
There is a choice of Design or Observational work. Is this usual? Is it not a choice when the paper arrives? I need to get clear on this as soon as possible!! Thanks, MO

Hello. I am new to IB Visual Arts and have been teaching for this level for 3 weeks now. I would really appreciate some guidance on lesson plans for studio work. I will be having training soon, but would love some guidance sooner than this! Any ideas?? What would work best for Year 12 starting the year off? Are there any resources available? Thanks!

I'm at a new high school in Japan and we are getting ready for IB. I'm sure I will have questions along the way and just need ways to communicate with others in the field.

I have no idea if this policy has existed for long or not because I haven´t found yet someone with experience on this. The IB allows students to work in groups as regards studio work, but they have to share ALL their studio works, which may be of help since the person I´m planing on teaming up with has the same theme practically and we share lots of ideas. However, as then the difference is made entirely by our workbook, we are not sure how it would affect our final grade to work together, even though we are really good at doing so. Has anyone had experience on this? How did it turn out working with someone? Did the grade vary a lot or not? Was it a good grade or do they consider shared works less valuable?

Hey, I'm new. My art teacher wanted me to connect with other IB art students from around the world and that's how I found this site. I thought it would be a good idea to post a thread that would be for students only. So that students could write about what they are thinking about art, ideas they have, questions they have, or anything they want really (as long as it has something to do with IB art). So, if you are a current IB art student, feel free to post stuff on this thread. Thanks :).

Hi all,
I wanted to invite all students AND teachers to explore The Florence Art Studio's website to learn about the programs we offer. We are a relatively new studio in Florence, Italy, which gives us the opportunity to develop some new relationships with groups of young students that may be interested in doing an educational field trip to Tuscany to study Renaissance art and also work on developing their portfolios. Please see our website, and check out the blog for historical, current, and technical information about drawing and painting! www.theflorenceartstudio.com/specialoffers/ |

Hi, I was thinking of creating paintings/sculptures/videos/photographs based on global issues. is that okay? For example I'd have a painting about feminism, and a sculpture about global warming. Or is that too broad? Should I stick to one global issue? Thanks.

First off, Hi. I'm currently about a third of the way through my IB, and I haven't even finished one single final piece. I'm also in a bit of a rut because I decided it would be wise to redo the majority of my workbook. I was wondering, what size book does everyone use? My teacher gave us A3, but I hated working in that, and I then found out that we can work in A4. Would you recommend it?

| Line11 | When is a series counted as one artwork? | 3 | Nov 4 2011, 9:03 AM EDT by mrs_anderson | ||||

Thread started: Oct 3 2011, 3:31 AM EDT

I am a Higher Level student, my exhibition is 19 days away, and I am slightly stressed.
I have many artworks that are similar to each other (either in terms of the artistic techniques used or the expressed ideas). Such artworks are to be exhibited as series. My teachers also say that each series (I have 5 of them) is going to be counted in my portfolio as one artwork. So instead of 12 'artworks', I am going to have only 5. But... every individual piece was time-consuming! I put too much work into them, and counting them as series also makes me lack 3 artworks because I need 18. I wonder if there are any rules or guidelines as to when a series is counted as a series and when is it counted as a set of individual works? By the way, my name is Alisa.

So my teacher, says I am not allowed to keep ANY of my pieces because they are "intellectual property of IB"
Could someone that really knows clarify this? After working so hard on all my composition I can keep anything??? Does this just apply to my school? This idea makes me really angry and honestly I feel this is a rule my teacher solely came up with.

Hi, I am new at teaching DP visual arts and I need some clarification.
1) What is correct, Investigative workbook (IWB) or investigation workbook (IW)? I have seen both around... 2) how many assessment criteria are there for IW/IWBs, (whatever is correct) : I have seen two different documents, one with 5 descriptors and one with 8. What are they? Thank you very much.

Hi,
I am getting conflicting information. My examiner says we cannot communicate at all. However, at a meeting with other IB art teachers and an ofcicial from the IBO, it was clearly explained that examiners and the teachers are allowed to discuss curriculum and questions the teacher might have about the exam process- as long as there is not discussion of actual kids or specific student work. Where can I find that listed on the IBO site? I am really in need of some feedback from my examiner but do not want to blunder into any IBO rules. Thank you
