As the creator of the IB Art online studio, it is my hope to connect the students of the world who are studying IB art and their teachers to share their ideas and what's going on in their IB art program, get feedback from each other, and to help each other stay informed about all things IB art and the art world in general.
I believe that technology is a tool that we should take advantage of. We can grow a community not limited by the bounds of geography and use it to inspire each other!
I currently teach IB art at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand.

By the time I get home from school, well, I just have no time for anything. The resettling has eaten up a lot time, but the 1 thing going extra well is how great my students are! I have never had such an eager group of students in all my 20 years! I knock on wood everyday- hope th, project to be! Those are great words to hear! [I found out later, he had a rough year last year, – so even more encouraging!] The new space we teach in is so peaceful, especially in the morning with all the sun pouring in through the wall of windows! Great space to create in! So speaking of creating, what have we been up to in IB Art? Let me list… -In their IWB- -What is your culture? Music collage & glazing techniques -Analogies of emotion/ Express two opposing emotions and investigate two artists whose work emulate that emotion -The Humument Tom Phillips treating pages of words into an visual work of art[We had read the book & viewed the film “The Girl w/ a Pearl Earring” I gave them a page from the book to emulate a page like Tom Philips style in The Humument. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain- developing the students perceptual abilities as recommended by IB examiners. Lots of drawing !
Students’ studio projects have included – -a watercolor landscape in the style of Charles Burchfield. -analog painting – taken from their IWB entry.
I have about six students who are “onto something.” I am now directing students individually to pursue a particular artist or movement for further investigation that will help them build upon their idea or imagery they have so far developed. I worry about a few who still need me to hold their hands. How's my pacing? Any suggestions? [I feel I need to increase their pace and I plan on giving them more specifics ideas to pursue –even during any breaks they may have.

The cutting and pasting I did in Post # 2 is missing the quote from my student... Here it is once more... By the time I get home from school, well, I just have no time for anything else. The resettling has eaten up so much time, but the one thing going extremely well is how wonderful my students are! I have never had such an eager group of students in all my 20 years of teaching! I knock on wood everyday- hope to keep them there in that state of mind. One Studio in Art student said on two ocassions , “how relaxing” he found our watercolor project to be! Those are great comments to hear! [I found out later, that this student had a very rough year last year, in his freshmen year – so even more encouraging!]

Hi, I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write. What a school year! I started on Aug 23rd- entered my new classroom [Our school, went under a two year, $43 million renov.-see CityHonorsSchool.org] only to find +500 boxes to unpack! I've worked 10 Saturdays,& stay most days til 6PM. Some Fri.-you can find me there til 10. [Thank God for iTunes & the Beatles!] I've most of my items unpacked, but now, w/ 3 preps- I teach 5 classes & 1 duty [new this year for us ☹]-I've my work cut out for me. [All of us feel overwhelmed w/ both the move, this new duty and all the new technology just thrown at us-even the yearbook is on a new software program for both production & sales!] This move has really been 4 school years in the making-Spring of 2008, we had to pack up all of our stuff & move into another bldg. for the Fall of 2008 where we found ourselves unpacking at this temporary site. Then in the spring 2010, we packed up yet again, and this past summer/fall 2010, we did our final unpacking! PHEW! I've also been the yearbook & newspaper adviser for the last 7 yrs. This year, I am running 3 different fundraisers to support these time consuming & money losing activities! I tried to resign from the extracurricular positions-but the admin. did not help recruit another replacement. [Swell of them!] What was I to do-tell our kids no yearbook? Next year, the school will definitely need to find a replacement! Next yr, I will be teaching 2 classes of IB Art HL, 1 Graphic Design, & 2 Studio in Art. So, hopefully, you now understand why I have not communicated to you sooner.
I am new to this threading- I wrote this up on a word doc. I have over 7,000 characters -so I will cut and paste, prob. in 3 parts.
